Tony Snow's Comment About the Iraq Heat

A few days ago, White House press secretary Tony Snow made a peculiar comment about the intense temperatures in Iraq at this time of year. In discussing how the Iraqi parliament will be on vacation during the entire month of August, thereby delaying any legislation that might get the country closer to political reconciliation, Snow remarked:

"My understanding is at this juncture they're going to take August off, but, you know, they may change their minds." He added sympathetically: "You know, it's 130 degrees in Baghdad in August."

Isn't it 130 degrees in Baghdad for our troops also? Probably hotter for those wearing gear. I'm assuming they won't get to "beat the heat" and come home for August. Is the Bush administration really prioritizing the comfort of sluggish and ineffective Iraqi politicians over the safety and lives of our men and women in uniform? Hard to believe, but a comment like Snow's certainly raises a red flag.
